Kosova’s traditional sounds

Abstract

This paper presents the project conducted during our field research in the villages of Kosovo in 2008, in collaboration with two ethnologist colleagues. The aim of this project was to highlight the values of the country's cultural heritage, particularly the enduring significance of folklore. During our fieldwork, we recorded various rhapsodes who have preserved and transmitted the musical heritage across generations. Additionally, open discussions were held to collect data on song repertoires, types of dances, and the use of traditional musical instruments. In our presentation, several musical pieces recorded directly in the field will be featured, including epic, historical, and lyrical songs, as well as some dance medleys.
